Providers encouraged to discuss advance care planning
11/05/2024
Providers are encouraged to discuss advance care planning with patients. Advance care planning, including documents such as advance directives, help share people’s health wishes if they were to become unable to make their own medical decisions. More information and resources about advance care planning can be found on the
Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) website
and
Hennepin Health website
.
According to the National Institute on Aging (NIA), research shows that people are more likely to get the care they want if they have conversations about their future medical treatment and put a plan in place, and it may help loved ones grieve more easily and feel less burden, guilt, and depression.
