Hennepin Health’s 2026 clinical practice guidelines

  • 10/29/2026

Hennepin Health’s Clinical Quality Outcomes Committee formally adopted five medical, three behavioral health, and two substance use disorder (SUD) clinical practice guidelines from nationally or locally recognized sources. Practice guidelines are based on valid, reliable clinical evidence. At a minimum, the practice guidelines are reviewed and updated at least every two years or more frequently if the guidelines change within the two-year period. The adopted clinical practice guidelines are shared with providers via the Hennepin Health website: Provider resources | Hennepin Health. When the practice guidelines are reviewed or revisions are made, Hennepin Health posts provider bulletins to the Hennepin Health website outlining updates.

The 2026 practice guidelines were selected based on two primary factors:

  • Addressing medical and behavioral health/SUD practice areas relevant to Hennepin Health members.
  • Aligning with the Hennepin Health Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) Prepaid Medical Assistance Program (PMAP)/MinnesotaCare and Hennepin Health – Special Needs BasicCare (SNBC) contracts.

After review, the 2026 practice guidelines remain the same as in 2024.

Hennepin Health – PMAP/MinnesotaCare and Hennepin Health – SNBC practice guidelines for 2026 are as follows:

  • Medical clinical practice guidelines
    • Preventive Services for Adults
    • Preventive Services for Children/Adolescents
    • Diabetes Type 1 and 2: Diagnosis and Management
    • Prenatal/Postpartum Care
    • Pain Management: Non-Opioid Treatment Options and Opioid Management
  • Behavioral health/SUD clinical practice guidelines
    • Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) – Children/Adolescents
    • Treatment of Patients, Adults and Children with Major Depressive Disorders
    • Treatment of Patients with Schizophrenia
    • Treatment of Patients with Substance Use Disorders
    • Treatment of Patients with Alcohol Dependence
