When to use urgent care

  • 12/29/2023

When a serious health problem happens, you look for immediate care. Urgent care may be your best option. We want you to get the right care at the right time.

Urgent care

Urgent care is care for a condition that needs prompt treatment to stop the condition from getting worse. It is not as serious as an emergency. Urgent care can help you with health issues like sprains, burns and broken bones. They also do X-rays, shots, throat cultures and other routine health care.

As our member, you have an open access network for urgent care. That means you can go to the nearest urgent care when or if you need it.

  • You can find urgent care locations in our online provider directory.
  • Hennepin Healthcare has an Acute Care Clinic in Brooklyn Park or downtown Minneapolis with same or next-day appointments.
  • If you get urgent care outside of Hennepin County, call Member Services at 612-596-1036, TTY 711 to let us know.

Another option is to call the 24/7 nurse line at 888-859-0202. They can help you determine if your health issue can be treated at home or if you should seek medical care.

Emergency care

Emergency rooms are set up to handle health issues that may be life-threatening. Problems like:

  • Heart attack or stroke
  • Severe bleeding
  • Severe trouble breathing
  • Severe pain
